How Much Does Carpet Cost?

Good Quality Carpet Is Expensive

Homeowners need to be concerned about the final carpet cost, including the combined cost of all the extra charges for padding and installation.

Depending on who you buy carpet from, some big box retailers run specials on carpet padding or carpet installation and then hit you with hefty extra fees and charges hidden in their fine print. This is very common with retailers like Home Depot, Lowe's and Costco.

While it may be convenient for you to shop for new carpet at a home improvement warehouse, it may not be the smartest way to go if saving money is important to you. They often advertise free or low-cost installation but the deal is not as good as they make it seem.

I never recommend big box retailers for homeowners who want to get a fair and square deal on new carpet and I never recommend any nationally advertised shop-at-home retailers like Empire Today. I think buying from a locally owned dealer is a much better way to go.

There are plenty of locally-owned carpet retailers that are willing to bring samples to your home if that’s what you would like, but I think shop-at-home carpet dealers with repetitious commercials on TV offering huge savings do not cater to well-informed consumers in search of a fair and square deal on new carpet or flooring.

Homeowners need access to honest and complete answers to carpet questions and typically want to know how long their new carpet will last and how much new carpet will cost without any surprises.

I have found that most consumers do not choose the right carpet quality, and therefore end up with a carpet that is incapable of lasting as long as they hope or anticipate.

The question is…how much should you really spend on new carpet? So many factors are involved in the best case scenario to make a sound judgment…
